Greatness

What is it about something so tall
that it reduces me;
Being so high
that it entitles me?

O mountain peaks hovering over me,
O infinite seascape,
Your majestic presence humbles me-
A minuscule existence among many before you.

If stance was the dictate of my strength,
I could succeed you;
Climb to the pinnacle and domineer below me;
Sail across your frontier and conquer the onward land.

But my stance is weak in your comparison;
A miscalculated perception;
Your breadth spans a land so wide,
It vastly captivates spectators,
Which a mere me couldn’t achieve even at your pinnacle;
Your waterway could immerse a species into extinction,
Taking even me with your current.

My demands for submission,
To be ridiculed;
The natural attention you command,
To be honoured.

O mountain peaks hovering over me,
O infinite seascape,
You evidence greatness-
Unattainable by a common being.
